When I was a young girl growing up in the Philippines (this one particularly in Manila)- I grew up watching a couple of young Pinoys make it big in London. I was 8 at that time and dreamed to achieve whatever these Pinoys have achieved.
I guess it was empowering to see Lea, Monique and the Pinoy cast of Miss Saigon make it! It made me realise that I could be as 'lucky' as them if I worked hard and never gave up on my dreams.
Recently, I watched a youtube video of another young Pinay, Charice Pempengco. A friend told me she was on the Paul O Grady show in London and that she sang amazingly well. I checked it out and boy, was I blown away.
I hope that more young Pinoys back home will feel that dreams can come true, that we can compete with everyone else on the international stage - it takes creativity, talent and hard work- I'm sure Pinoys are not lacking any of these.
This goes to events that shape young people's lives!
